Castles, Palaces and Chateaux

There seems to be no end to the number of castles, palaces and chateaux in this country.  You can choose from castle ruins to Prague Castle, which is one of the largest castles in the world!

Český Krumlov

This old, medieval city is one of the country’s UNESCO sites.  It’s surely not to be missed if you visit the Czech Republic.

Culture, Festivals and Holidays

The Czech Republic has many events year-round, from beer festivals to traditional festivals honouring Czech traditions.

Did you know that Christmas dinner is carp and potato salad?

Czech Countryside and Nature

The Czech Republic has a great nature culture.  Skiing, hiking, rafting, canoeing, and cycling are just some of the activities to be enjoyed.

Food and Drink

Czechs know great food and great beer.  In fact, our director used to teach English at Staropramen brewery. Other beers to try include Pilsen and Kozel, and many more.  For food, you must try the gulaš (goulash).

Kutná Hora

Silver mining, a gorgeous cathedral, and a small church decorated with bones; it’s a city you don’t want to miss!

The mountain range runs along the Czech and Polish border.  It’s a popular spot for hiking and other outdoor activities.  It was on a hiking trip here that our director learnt that Czechs call very large blueberries ‘Canadian blueberries’ while having fruit dumplings at a pub along the hiking trail.

There is good reason to walk around at night.  It adds a bit of mystery and romance.

This city is the European Capitol of Culture for 2015, and home to Pilsner beer. In addition to touring the breweries you can take a tour of medieval tunnels under the city.

Random Bits and Pieces

Sometimes photos don’t seem to fit into one clear category.  This is the album for those photos.

Terezín has a long, and sad, history.  The Nazis used this town to hold prisoners.  They produced a propaganda film to show the prisoners living happy lives.  Sadly, the film fooled the Red Cross and others.

Things to Do

There are so many things to see and do in the Czech Republic.  It has stunning nature and amazing architecture.  There are lovely galleries, theatres, and a gorgeous opera house.  The country has excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes.  Look inside to see some of what the Czech Republic offers!

Views from Above

There are several high points in the country that make for great views.  When in Prague, you can go to Petřín hill or up one of several towers in the city.
